Jackson Park Golf Course

Encampment Cleared at Jackson Park

Encampment Cleared Outside fence line at Jackson Park Golf Course in Seattle, one homeless camper says around 10 tents w/ 18 people living together were moved out today. But it’s unclear how many took shelter and services. This camper says some may resort to crime to survive. More Scheduled The city continues it’s march to clear homeless encampments on public right of ways. But it’s on the public to call them in. The city says crews are not proactively looking for encampments. They just respond. Not Interested Apparently there are open shelter beds for the homeless at Union Gospel Mission in Seattle. But Anthony says he is not going. Here are his reasons. Listen.

Sodo Tents

Still Much Work To Be Done in SODO

What About This? @MayorofSeattle’s homelessness dashboard shows nearly 200 tents/RV’s in Sodo. Unfortunately, it does not show exact locations being tracked. I’m trying to figure out who’s responsible for this lot near Airport Way S, across street from BMW dealership. Dashboard Sodo’s got a long way to go. @MayorofSeattle’s office says there are likely more RV’s/ tents in this neighborhood. Frustrating for some who want exact locations and addresses of current encampments on dashboard. #s will be updated quarterly.

Learning From History

In helping the homeless we should be both generous and discerning. If we only provide material help in a way that enables addiction and overlooks mental illness, our generosity may be selfishness that gives ourselves a warm glow but hurts others. Read More ›

Organizations like “We Heart Seattle” Starting to Yield Results

Well Done For more than a year, many of us have driven by this homeless encampment on the side of the road in Queen Anne. Just a few days ago, @weheartseattle cleaned up this entire area. Only one woman was living here at the time and they got her into a “Tiny House.” Well Oiled Machine @weheartfounder wasn’t even there when I showed. She was personally helping this homeless person transition. Otherwise, neighbors tired of waiting on city and county, now calling @weheartseattle to clean up abandoned homeless encampments. This is a movement. Call Them I have met so many good neighbors in Seattle who are tired of the red tape. Even with @MayorofSeattle’s homeless plan, it won’t immediately address Read More ›

3rd Ave Pioneer Square

Tents Popping Back Up in Pioneer Square

Anyone Call the City? Last week, I spotted 1 tent back on 3rd Ave. in Pioneer Square. This area was cleared last month. City says if people email or use Find It Fix It to report, it will be addressed in 48hrs. It’s now been roughly 3 days and 2 more tents have appeared. Last Week Only this “double tent” was set up again on 3rd. Ave in Pioneer Square, in this same area that was recently cleared by city crews. Last Month More than a dozen tents were removed from 3rd Ave in Pioneer Square.

Little Saigon

Return of Tents in Little Saigon Highlights Potential Enforcement Gray Area in Seattle

Gray Area @MayorofSeattle homeless plan says if tents show up in same spot(happening now in Little Saigon) after clearing, neighbors can contact city and crews will respond within 48hrs. But what if tents show up the across street? Do same enforcement standards apply? Reminder Here’s what Deputy Mayor Tiffany Washington said last week when I asked how they would respond if a tent or RV returned to the same area after a clearing. Email or Find It Fix It, and city is supposed to address within 48 hrs. Just to Be Clear When city cleared S. Weller St last month, tents and structures were all set up on only one side of the street. Now there’s a new tent on Read More ›

Human Lives

If you've seen the TV show "Welcome Back, Kotter," you may sense a bit of what I'm feeling now. During the 1990s I wrote a lot about homelessness, and I’m jumping back into the subject now with Fix Homelessness and the crucial subtitle of this website, "How to rebuild human lives." Read More ›
