The article reports the financial losses of several nonprofit housing providers due to non-payment of rent, costly evictions, vacancies, and behavioral challenges with tenants. New Legislation:“Stay Out of Drug Area (SODA) – authorizes the court to prohibit a defendant from entering a designated zone if they commit a drug-related criminal offense in that zone. SODA orders may be issued by the court either as a condition of pre-trial release, or a condition of sentence if convicted.”

NEW Seattle City Attorney Ann Davison just introduced aggressive public safety legislation to address the open-air drug dens in parts of downtown. The zones would be called a “Stay Out of Drug Area (SODA)” which includes the notorious 3rd Ave & Pike St. If anyone commits a drug related offense in that area, they won’t be able to come back. Meanwhile, the Downtown Seattle Association installed fencing to prevent drug addicts from using the alleyways. This Happens Daily I just confronted a homeless fentanyl addict ransacking the Target store inside the Bellevue Marketplace at Factoria. I watched him fill his cart with stolen items and walk out. Workers say this happens daily. Mall security eventually stopped him but did not call cops to arrest him. Now you know why everyday household items are locked up.
