Damage Control

Embattled Plymouth Housing CEO Karen Lee is doing damage control after our series of reports highlighting all the crime, chaos, and death in her Bellevue, WA facility. I have obtained an email Lee recently sent to Bellevue councilmembers. Based on her talking points and spin, she appears to think they’re gullible and stupid.

Lee claims some of the content about Plymouth contains misinformation or misleading characterizations. But she fails to call out specifics and also does not name the news organization or social media accounts.

She then goes on to say the Plymouth model works and tries to prove her point by citing debunked studies from liberal academics. However, Lee once again fails to mention all the crime, chaos, and death associated with this model. King County’s own data now shows there are now more people dying of drug overdoses behind closed doors in permanent supportive housing then on the streets.

Lee also tries to discredit and dismiss the damaging evidence against Plymouth Crossing in Bellevue by labeling it “public opinion.”

But here are the facts:

  • This Plymouth facility along with the PorchLight homeless shelter on the same campus trigger the most 911 calls in the city.
  • My devastating videos of all the problems at Plymouth show a concerning pattern.
  • Neighbors are scrutinizing this facility now more than ever after being victimized by Plymouth clients.
  • And some city councilmembers are now investigating this provider.

Despite her PR spin, Lee is not committed to transparency. Since last year, she has not responded to a single request for comment about the horrific conditions in her facilities. Lee has also banned me and We Heart Seattle’s Andrea Suarez from her buildings. What is Lee trying to hide?

Bottom line, Lee is scared and concerned more media and watchdog groups will start investigating Plymouth Housing’s operations. So she’s now begging the Bellevue council to essentially look the other way and shut up.
