Sodo Rv Encampment

Despite Sweeps, RVs and Tents Return to SODO

Happening Now After city spent tons of money sweeping this encampment on 3rd Ave. S and Holgate St. this summer, even more tents/RV’s are back. Biz owners are furious it’s being ignored. Waiting for @MayorofSeattle @CMTammyMorales to respond. Where’s enforcement? Her Words Back in May when @MayorofSeattle unveiled plan to tackle #Seattle‘s homeless crisis, I point blank asked Deputy Mayor Tiffany Washington what they would do if campers returned to an area already cleared by city crews. She said they would try to remove within 2 days! Few Blocks Away City also removed RV’s and tents on Utah Ave S. in SODO. But literally the same RV’s/vehicles and some NEW tents are back. Biz owners say there is “SELECTIVE ENFORCEMENT” Read More ›

SDOT Sweeps Ballard RV Encampment, But Struggles with Enforcement

Seattle RV Shuffle Continues I first told you about Ballard’s “Double Decker” RV last year+how neighbors complained about loud noise/music coming from this vehicle. After @SeattleDot enforcement, owner moved on…but just around the corner. City of Blocks Even after @SeattleDot does RV encampment removal, I personally witnessed dozens of RV owners simply move down street. So is this the strategy? Tire everyone out w/sweeps, hoping they don’t return? Until that gets figured out, eco block biz is THRIVING. Business is Booming Concrete “eco-blocks” cost $20-$30 bucks a piece. It’s cheap cause these are considered “scrap.” But here’s the catch, you have to transport these things yourself. Salmon Bay Sand & Gravel ain’t the only game in town. But being in Read More ›

King County Clears Encampment Along Green River Road, But Stragglers Remain

Stragglers Early Wednesday morning, crews will finally be clearing the RV encampment along Green River Rd. in unincorporated King Co. Process was delayed after @KC_RHA asked for more time to do outreach. This evening, only a few people remain. But they aren’t planning to leave. Happening Now Crews clearing thousands of pounds of trash on Green River Rd. in unincorporated King County. Most homeless campers/RV’s are gone. But deputies have ZERO authority to remove them if they return. Several guys said they’re coming back once crews leave. Where’s the Enforcement? Reagan Dunn spoke to me this morning, reiterating importance of his new legislation that would give King County Sheriff’s deputies the authority to remove homeless campers if they returned. Return of Tents in Little Saigon Highlights Potential Enforcement Gray Area in Seattle

Gray Area @MayorofSeattle homeless plan says if tents show up in same spot(happening now in Little Saigon) after clearing, neighbors can contact city and crews will respond within 48hrs. But what if tents show up the across street? Do same enforcement standards apply? Reminder Here’s what Deputy Mayor Tiffany Washington said last week when I asked how they would respond if a tent or RV returned to the same area after a clearing. Email or Find It Fix It, and city is supposed to address within 48 hrs. Just to Be Clear When city cleared S. Weller St last month, tents and structures were all set up on only one side of the street. Now there’s a new tent on Read More ›
