Return of Tents in Little Saigon Highlights Potential Enforcement Gray Area in Seattle

Gray Area @MayorofSeattle homeless plan says if tents show up in same spot(happening now in Little Saigon) after clearing, neighbors can contact city and crews will respond within 48hrs. But what if tents show up the across street? Do same enforcement standards apply? Reminder Here’s what Deputy Mayor Tiffany Washington said last week when I asked how they would respond if a tent or RV returned to the same area after a clearing. Email or Find It Fix It, and city is supposed to address within 48 hrs. Just to Be Clear When city cleared S. Bruce Harrell Unveils Homeless Plan

Mayor Harrell Discusses Housing for Homeless

Clear Distinction @MayorofSeattle announced that most of the outreach, support services, shelter referrals, and anything to do with getting homeless into housing will now be in the hands of @KC_RHA. The Mayor’s office will still be handling encampment clearings and enforcement. Accountability It’s now very clear. All the questions about the hundreds of millions of dollars being poured into “housing first,” must now be directed at @KC_RHA. And CEO Marc Dones is asking for millions more for this plan. Who’s following the money trail and tracking results? City Outreach Still Happening Btw, @MayorofSeattle office will retain control of the HOPE Team, so shelter referrals and beds set aside for that team stay with the City.

Seattle Businesses Use “Eco-Blocks” to Prevent Return of Encampments

Following Up It’s unclear if @MayorofSeattle will have a plan to prevent campers from returning after these encampment clearings in Seattle. But in some spots, we are already seeing more biz owners bring in planters and concrete blocks. Happened a few days ago in Little Saigon. Not Allowed @seattledot keeps saying anyone caught putting these blocks down on a public street or sidewalk could he fined $2K. But so far, only warnings. At this point, many biz owners and neighbors say they’re willing to take chance, rather than see tents or RV’s return. Block Party Georgetown RV enforcement/clean up aftermath from last week. Biz’s now busting out “eco-blocks” at 7th/Fidalgo until city leaders address: How do you prevent campers from Read More ›
