Huge Win for Chinatown: King County Disbands Plans for Homeless Megaplex

Historic Win Recapping Saturday’s #Chinatown-ID victory rally, when was the last time you heard about an Asian American community, made up of mostly SENIOR CITIZENS, taking down a King County Executive’s (@kcexec) plan to RAM through a HOMELESS MEGAPLEX? Unprecedented in #Seattle. Coming Together Before Dow capitulated Friday, many #Chinatown-ID residents were extremely disappointed in Democrats for being MIA. But Joe Nguyen and Sharon Tomiko Santos finally showed to put HOMELESS MEGAPLEX on BLAST. @KCGOP being praised for being with #CID since 1st rally. Ongoing Challenges As I was walking to Hing Hay Park on Saturday, I encountered another addict using a doorway to smoke drugs. This is a daily occurrence in #Chinatown-ID. This is why the advocates and seniors Read More ›

Protest organizers say they are not against the homeless. Just at WAR with Dow. Tempers and Racism Flare A homeless person walking back to her encampment just cursed out #Chinatown-ID elders and yelled, “Go back to your country!”

Dow Constantine Addresses Chinatown Safety Concerns

Dow Constantine Speaks He dodged my questions last week, but today @kcexec stood in there and responded after I asked him about PUBLIC SAFETY plan around HOMELESS MEGAPLEX. He’s refusing #Chinatown-ID’s request for 6 month moratorium on project. I guess I’m a JOURNALIST again. Major Public Safety Concerns Dow’s response shows there is NO new plan for PUBLIC SAFETY around this HOMELESS MEGAPLEX. Relying on current law enforcement agencies when they’re already down officers is not reassuring. This is what I was referring to. What About Moratorium? Leo Flor is Director of King County Department of Community and Human Services. He’s in charge of getting Dow Constantine’s (@kcexec) HOMELESS MEGAPLEX up and running. Listen to his SPIN when I ask Read More ›

Dow Constantine Dodging Questions

Dow Constantine Dodges Tough Questions About Chinatown Homeless Megaplex

Exclusive Earlier today, @kcexec dodged my questions about the HOMELESS MEGAPLEX he’s trying to RAM through #Seattle. #Chinatown-ID is begging him to put a moratorium on project until public comments are gathered. This is a TOP 3 story in the city. We need more MEDIA on this. Questions I Was Trying to Ask 1) Since you did not hold a public comment period or consult #Chinatown-ID, why not PAUSE this project until input can be gathered? 2) What’s your public safety plan? Recently #Seattle‘s Interim Police Chief Adrian Diaz expressed concerns. More Questions 3) When are you going to personally FACE questions from #Chinatown-ID residents? 4) Are you aware many in #Chinatown-ID say your homeless policies are racist against Asian Read More ›

King County Attempts to Fast Track Homeless Megaplex in Chinatown

More Evidence Last week as #Chinatown International District prepared to protest against @kcexec‘s HOMELESS MEGAPLEX, Dow’s representative essentially asked @KCCouncil permission to FAST TRACK project by doing away with COMPETITIVE bidding process on construction. Outrage Community advocate Matt Chan (@Lofanland) is a former special advisor to @MayorofSeattle. Chan says it’s evident @kcexec is trying to push his HOMELESS MEGAPLEX through without #Chinatown-ID community input. Even some @KCCouncil are now questioning the process. More Protests Tues Sept.13, #Chinatown-ID will confront @KCCouncil as members consider voting on request from @kcexec to fast track HOMELESS MEGAPLEX. They’re demanding answers from @JoeMcDermottWA who sponsored project. Will he show in person? Details. Fears Rise Over a Potential Surge in Crime in Chinatown District Due to Homeless Megaplex

Public Safety Plan? So far, zero info from @kcexec on how he plans to deal w/potential crime and problems associated with HOMELESS MEGAPLEX. For context, Navigation Center is a shelter/drug injection site already in #CID, plagued w/problems. But much smaller in scale. Just Google It So many on going issues with Navigation Center. Blight on #CID and continues to fuel crime and other illicit activity in area. And residents feel like they’re being victimized again if @kcexec‘s HOMELESS MEGAPLEX comes in. Free for All On Wednesday, law enforcement unions came together to say they’re grossly understaffed. So relying on police to patrol area surrounding HOMELESS MEGAPLEX …good luck. And that’s why #Chinatown-ID residents are concerned.

Chinatown Residents Push Back Against Homeless Megaplex

Chinatown Fights Back Thursday evening, organizers say more than 1000 people attended PROTEST against @kcexec‘s HOMELESS MEGAPLEX in nearby SODO. #CID residents say elected officials DID NOT consult THEM and STILL trying to RAM this through w/out any public input. Put on Blast #Seattle agencies+public officials who supported or looked the other way on this HOMELESS MEGAPLEX. @kcexec@CMTammyMorales@JoeMcDermottWA@cmkshama@MayorofSeattle@Leo_J_Flor@marcformarc@KC_RHA@SeattleCouncil@KCCouncil Cantonese translation included. Seizing Moment Reps @KCGOP@bethsd showed up to support #Chinatown-ID residents. They say Asian American community is FASTEST growing minority voting bloc in USA and WA. I DID NOT see any Democratic party reps. If HOMELESS MEGAPLEX comes in, watch how many go #GOP#Republican. Problematic for Dems Political strategists know Asian American voting bloc is up for grabs.
